Carpet deep cleaning for heavily soiled carpet

When regular cleaning no longer helps: restorative cleaning for carpet that has gone years without a proper clean, or has been through a hard time.

What "deep cleaning" means here

The term gets used loosely. We use it for a job where normal maintenance cleaning will not be enough, since the soil has built up so far that it needs several stages of work.

If your carpet is in reasonable condition, you probably do not need this. Our regular residential or office service will do the job for less.

Signs that you might need one

  • The main routes stay dark after vacuuming, or even after a recent clean.
  • The carpet feels stiff or sticky underfoot.
  • There is a stale smell when the weather is damp.
  • You have taken over a flat or office from someone who did not look after it.
  • There has been renovation dust. Fine plaster and cement dust is highly abrasive, and hard to remove.
  • It has been years since it was professionally cleaned.

What happens in a deep clean

  1. Extended dry soil removal. This may take longer than the wet clean, and it often makes the biggest difference.
  2. Pre-treatment. A heavier-duty pre-spray with enough time to work, and targeted treatment for oily routes.
  3. Agitation. Working the product through the pile, so that it reaches soil at the base.
  4. Thorough extraction and rinsing. Often more than one pass, along with a rinse to reduce leftover residue.
  5. Spot treatments. Stains are dealt with individually.
  6. Careful drying. More moisture is involved, so airflow matters more. See carpet care in humid weather.

What it will not do

Deep cleaning cannot reverse fibre damage. If a route looks pale or flattened after cleaning, the fibres themselves have been worn down. This is called traffic wear. The carpet may look clean but still look tired.

We will tell you when a carpet is worn out rather than dirty, because in that case replacement might be better value. A photo and a few details are enough for a first opinion.

Damp, mould or water damage

If the carpet has been flooded or has visible mould, please tell us before booking. Cleaning alone may not solve it. The source of the moisture has to be addressed first, and materials that have been wet for a long time may need replacing. The Hong Kong Government's indoor air quality guidance advises drying water-damaged materials within 24 to 48 hours.

Common questions

How is this different from your normal carpet clean?

It takes longer and has more stages, with heavier pre-treatment and thorough rinsing, because the soil load is much higher. For that reason, it usually costs more than a maintenance clean.

Is my carpet too far gone?

Possibly, but you cannot always tell by looking. Send a photo of the worst area and the main routes, and we will give you an honest first opinion.

Can deep cleaning remove mould?

Please talk to us first. Mould on carpet usually points to a moisture problem, which has to be fixed. Heavily affected carpet and underlay often need replacing rather than cleaning.
