Sofa cleaning in Hong Kong

Fabric sofa, armchair and upholstery cleaning, done in your home, after checking the fabric and care code first.

Why sofas need different treatment from carpet

Sofas are harder to clean than they look. Upholstery fabric is often more delicate than carpet. Water can pass through it into foam and backing, and some fabrics shrink, water-mark or bleed. Then there is the body oil, which builds up on armrests and headrests over the years, and which vacuuming does not touch.

Hong Kong's damp also plays a part. Fabric that stays damp in a closed room can start to smell.

First, read the care label

Most sofas have a code on the label under a seat cushion or on the frame. It tells us what the manufacturer allows:

Code Meaning
W Water-based cleaning is allowed
S Solvent-based cleaning only
W/S or WS Either water or solvent
X Vacuum only, and no liquid cleaning

If you cannot find a label, send us a picture of the fabric. We will test on a hidden area before we start.

What we clean

  • Fabric sofas and armchairs, including removable covers
  • Dining chairs and office seating
  • Headboards and upholstered benches

Leather needs different products from fabric, so tell us if yours is leather or faux leather. Faux leather that is already peeling cannot be repaired by cleaning.

How we clean a sofa

  1. Check the care code, fabric and existing damage.
  2. Vacuum thoroughly, including under the cushions.
  3. Treat stains and heavily soiled areas, such as armrests.
  4. Clean using a method suited to the fabric, limiting moisture.
  5. Set up airflow and explain how to help it dry.

What cleaning can and cannot fix

Cleaning removes soil, many stains and most odours. It will not restore colour that has faded in the sun, repair worn fabric, or replace flattened foam. Some marks, such as dye transfer from jeans or ink, may only partly come out. We will tell you what to expect when we have seen it.

For pricing, see our cost guide. If you have a carpet to do at the same time, please mention it.

Common questions

Does upholstery cleaning really work?

For body oil, general soil and many spills, yes, and the difference on armrests and seat cushions is often obvious. It works less well on sun fading, worn fabric, and permanent dye stains.

How long does a sofa take to dry?

It depends on the fabric, the foam and the air in the room. Plan for several hours at least, and use air conditioning, a fan or a dehumidifier to speed things up.

Can I wash the removable covers in a machine?

Only if the care label says so. Covers can shrink, so that they no longer fit. Check first, and if in doubt, leave them on and ask us.

Do you charge by the seat?

Sofa pricing usually depends on the number of seats, the fabric and how soiled it is. Send a photo and we will give you a figure.
